Summary:

This course is designed for the participants who already have basic Oracle knowledge and experience and want to enhance or extend their administration skills to a higher level in the new millennium. This class will give a hand on experience as a senior database administrator.

Week 1:  Oracle installation and migration

1. Oracle env variable setup
2. Install Oracle in Sun-Solaris
3. Applying patches to Oracle
4. Migration oracle database from 8i to 9i
5. Oracle using shares memory and how to setup system parameters.
6. Setup daily oracle cron job for the backup & other maintenance.  

Week 2: Tuning and implement Oracle

1. Capacity planning
2. Physical design RAID (Disk Manager)
3. Tuning I/O & memory
4. Advance SQL tuning 

Week 3:  Copy database and distribute data

1. Change database name
2. Copy database from one server to others using cold/hot backup.
3. Distributed data using oracle tool (snapshot, db_link, copy and so on)
4. Standby database setup

Week 4:  Oracle 9I and 10 G new features.

1. Data transports by tablespaces
2. Choose different block size within singe database
3. Partition table and partition index.
4. The Pros & Cons of Partition
5. Other new features 

Week 5:  Monitoring of Oracle

1. Oracle daily monitoring
2. Reversing DDL using Log Miner
3. Benchmarking (stress test on various physical designs)
4. Oracle Data Warehouse
5. Oracle DBA interview tips & techniques with useful administration scripts 

Week 6:  Microsoft SQL Server

1. Architectures compare with Oracle
2. Create database, create table space, create user, setup securities.
3. Tuning database
4. Loading data using tool (export, import, loader)
5. Backup and recovery.
6. Integration and interface with other vendor products
